One of the most enduring of all the ancient laws of humanity is that we see the world not as it is, but as we are.  At the bottom of a mountain, we perceive the world and the task at hand to be both limiting and daunting.  However once we have scaled the mountain, the same world presents a treasure trove of limitless opportunities and potential.  As T.S. Eliot says, only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.  This very much defines the life of every entrepreneur.

One of the hallmarks of a visionary entrepreneur lies in his ability to pursue his dreams and to strive endlessly for the translation of positive intentions into tangible measurable results.  An entrepreneur has to be aware of the possibilities that the future holds and constantly check it against his present state of operations.  Ninety percent of his success lies in the implementation and execution of strategy.  To achieve this he becomes a person of action, embracing better and faster ways to merge the present with the future and realize the vision and role that he has taken on.

In the midst of all this, he will have to constantly face his fear of the unknown.  And there is only one way for him to conquer this fear – by doing the very things that one fears to do.  Entrepreneurs who live by the mantra, expect nothing; be prepared for anything, defy established norms and protocols, and make visionary things happen.  It is such undying entrepreneurial spirit that breathes life into an idea, a vision, an organization, or a nation in itself.  Remembering the words of Andre Gide, Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.

Another beautifully written post. Andre Gide’s quote is particularly inspiring. I heard another similar quote by John Ortberg, a Christian minister, “If you want to walk on water, you must get out of the boat.” Thank you for this inspiring piece.
